- After almost three years of dedicated service to the NCCS user community, the Palm/Explore cluster has been decommissioned on September 30, 2008 and will be replaced with a new system.

- New NASA Supercomputer Will Play Critical Role as Scientists Simulate Climate, Weather and Solar Activity
- The NCCS has selected an IBM iDataPlex cluster-style supercomputer, which is being integrated with the existing "Discover' cluster for a combined performance of 67 trillion calculations per second (teraflops).

- Science Time Requests Due September 20
- The Science Mission Directorate (SMD) is selecting from requests submitted to the e-Books online system for awards beginning on November 1. Current projects set to expire on October 31 must have a request in e-Books to be considered for renewal. Although the deadline has passed, the SMD will still consider late requests. However, there is no guarantee that a late request will be approved by November 1.
